George Stuart

George Stuart is a legend in the Maya community. For nearly 40 years he worked at the National Geographic Society, during that time he worked to get articles related to the Maya and Mesoamerica into the magazine. He also amassed an enormous library of 12,000 volumes at the Boundary End Archaeology Research Center.

Here he is pictured with Jim O'Kon at the Maya at the Lago Conference in 2012 when Jim presented him with his signed copy of the finished book. George was tremendously generous in his reviewing of Jim's manuscript for the book. Especially in the historical parts where his anecdotal notes in the margins about the founding fathers of American archaeology. Of course, George was a mere teenager at the time that he knew them.
